Things That Make Me Feel Like Me

In the last couple of weeks, I've felt like every day has been a constant battle. Recently I've had some big life changes and what feels like a string of failures. But we must persist. Baby Maeve wouldn't want me to be this hard on myself and honestly high school Maeve would still be pretty happy knowing I've made it out of my hometown (no hate—I love my hometown, shoutout Lafayette). Whenever I feel lost or disconnected, I go back to the basics. I wanted to sit down and share some of the things that have been helping me find my center again. We all have those things—take a moment for yourself and think about what grounds you, brings you peace, or simply lightens your mental load.

My mom's a librarian, and people love her. From a young age, she was always praised for being an amazing teacher. To this day, former students still come up to her and reminisce about the campfire and s’mores lesson from third grade. Growing up with her, I was instilled with a deep love for reading and learning. For me, reading is an escape from all the pressing (or not so pressing) tasks on my computer. I love non-fiction, and right now, I'm diving into The 10 Laws of Career Reinvention by Pamela Mitchell (check out my linktree if you want a copy). This book has inspired me to focus on myself, embrace a bit of selfishness, and explore new possibilities.

Before moving to Austin and living with my roommate Jordan, I never kept fresh flowers in my house. They seemed frivolous—why buy something that’s going to die in a week? But I've realized the point is to surround yourself with beauty. Even just a bud vase with a single stem lifts my spirits. One of my favorite places to get flowers is Trader Joe's—they’re usually inexpensive and gorgeous. Right now, I’m loving white hydrangeas. They last long and look so fluffy when they fill out. It doesn’t hurt that I live with someone as talented as Jo, who creates the most beautiful arrangements. Thanks, Jo!

I grew up an only child for 15 years of my life. I know how to be alone—I spent many a year playing Barbies alone or doing my nails in the bathroom to pass the time. But in college, I feel like I found out I flourish when I'm around others. Being able to connect with people and learn about them is so fascinating. I constantly work on being more outgoing because it doesn't come naturally to me, but I always feel a sense of pride when I step outside my comfort zone. One of my goals this year is to connect with more people, learn about their lives, and grow a community of strong women. I would love to connect with anyone who comes to visit my blog. If you want to get to know me, just ask. I promise I'm curious to learn about you. Just reach out— I'll be here.

Ok, love you

Bye!
